We know you might still be learning all the new terms from our first part of the Jar Healthy Alphabet but we are already back with the second portion of healthy knowledge. Let’s then go straight into it.
We bet you thought you were the master of Mexican cuisine. Tacos nights or margaritas with cheese nachos, right? (Omg writing about this just makes me wanna have it all, NOW) You though have probably not heard about another popular ingredient on that side of the world - nopal.
Nopal is a common name in Spanish for pads of Opuntia Cacti which are used in preparing a wide variety of dishes back to Mexico. It might sound crazy for now to have some cactus salad for lunch, but we have a feeling our suppliers will be quick to catch on. Not only nopals are rich sources of nutrients but also some say they can even be treated as a diet food for weight loss due to their low-calorie (Only 16 calories per 100 grams).
Not long ago we have talked to you about the importance of seasonal foods. Now we go from there to regenerative farming for those seasonal treats. All the plant-based food comes from where? Well, first of all of from the soil and the quality of the soil defines the end result we get on the table.
Aggressive farming has been killing the harvests of our future and for that matter, regenerative farming is what we need to make a new normal instead of just looking if the food has “organic” sticker on it. RF is the practice many global companies as Danone have already adopted in order to actively restore the soil and give the second life the harvests many thought were lost.
The Jar - Healthy Vending team is certain that soon you will be the one checking the new label on your tomatoes which says which type of farming was performed to grow them.
Normal, vegan or solein protein powder in a shake for you? - gym bar question of 2021. Solein powder is the new upcoming trend in supplements and superfoods. Made of water, air and electricity this powder is claimed to be the hottest thing on the market when it actually comes to live somewhere in the next year. Solar Foods company which is working on this product believes this will change the vision on protein with solein powder being both “natural, and free from the burdens of agriculture and aquaculture”.
And yes, it’s also vegan unless they stop eating electricity by the time this powder arrives on the market.
I remember my grandma always used to tell me not to eat watermelon seeds. In Russia many kids in my childhood believed in that horror were if you ate it the watermelon tree would start growing inside you. Little did my granny know that watermelon seeds are becoming all over the place now. Cosmetics, foods, drinks - you name it. Chinese though have again been way before us on that trend and for a century have been using it as a little snack for guests visiting them on the Chinese New Year.
The powerhouse of many nutrients such as iron, copper, zinc, and magnesium watermelon seeds production is believed to grow into a multimillion-dollar business by 2035.
