Sustainable Vending: The Jar achieves Carbon Neutral status in partnership with Carbon Neutral Britain

Updated: Nov 18

We’re incredibly proud to announce that The Jar Healthy Vending has officially earned Carbon Neutral Certification for 2024/25, verified by Carbon Neutral Britain.

This achievement means a huge deal to us as a small, independent business. It reflects our genuine commitment to measuring, reducing, and offsetting our carbon emissions and marks a major step forward in our mission to provide sustainable vending machines London.

Why is being carbon neutral important for vending machine suppliers London?

Traditionally, vending machines haven’t been seen as sustainable. Older models were energy-hungry, stocked with high-sugar, single-use packaged products, and often serviced using petrol fleets. For years, the industry prioritised convenience over conscience but this has changed more recently.

For The Jar, sustainability has always been a part of our ethos. Our approach goes beyond offering snacks and drinks, it’s about supplying smart, energy-efficient vending machines that your workplace or venue can rely on.

From eco-friendly vending machines to our fully electric fleet, we’re dedicated to responsible business practices. As more London workplaces look for suppliers that align with their CSR and ESG goals, we’re proud to be leading the way as a sustainable vending and coffee machine supplier. Measuring our carbon footprint

To achieve the Carbon Neutral certification, we worked with Carbon Neutral Britain to accurately measure our emissions for the 2024/25 reporting year across three key scopes:

  1. Scope 1 (Direct Emissions): 0.66 tCO₂e from company vehicles and mains gas.

  2. Scope 2 (Energy Indirect): 2.50 tCO₂e from electricity use, including charging our electric fleet.

  3. Scope 3 (Other Indirect): 3.51 tCO₂e from activities such as inbound deliveries, staff commuting, and waste.

In total, our operations produced 6.67 tonnes of CO₂e, all of which we’ve now fully offset.

Offsetting our carbon footprint

To achieve Carbon Neutral status, The Jar Healthy Vending has offset all emissions through the Carbon Neutral Britain Woodland Fund, which supports high-impact environmental projects around the world.

These include:

  • Blue Carbon Mangrove Restoration – Protecting over 350,000 hectares in Pakistan’s Indus River Delta.

  • Orinoco River Basin Reforestation – Restoring degraded grassland and protecting endangered species such as jaguars and pumas.

  • Wind Power in Maharashtra, India – Generating renewable energy and reducing reliance on fossil fuels.

  • Community Forests in Tanzania – Reforesting over 6,500 hectares while supporting local education and employment.

All projects are independently verified by globally recognised standards, including Verra (VCS), Gold Standard, and the UN CER programme.

Our ongoing plan to reduce emissions

While offsetting is vital, our ultimate goal is reducing emissions at the source. As part of our Carbon Reduction Plan, we’re targeting our three largest emission areas:

  • Inbound Deliveries (23%) – Optimising logistics, consolidating shipments, and prioritising local suppliers.

  • Mains Gas (8%) – Upgrading to energy-efficient systems and exploring renewable heating solutions.

  • Staff Commuting (4%) – Encouraging cycling, car-sharing, and EV adoption.

We’ve also committed to reducing our total emissions by 50% by 2030, in line with Science Based Targets and the UK Government’s Net Zero 2050 goal.
